Brittany Howard at Thalia Hall Chicago.
I was stoked to be able to work with Brittany Howard to make a poster for her two night stand at beautiful Thalia Hall in Chicago. The shows kicked off her tour for her STUNNING new album “What Now” , which is being released this month. Having made posters for the Alabama Shakes since their first tour , I was happy to make the artwork for these events.
I chose the Phoenix as symbol of rising and rebirth; BH solo records are personal affairs and also a tour de force- I thought this symbology fit her perfectly.
Here is a pencil sketch and a shot of the claybord ink drawing and handdrawn text treatments:
After finalizing the lineart, I hand drew the color layers and got to printing these in four colors on my trusty Cameo Semi-Automatic Press. Its a beast .
The final product is a four color silkscreen poster, printed on “Blue Raspberry” Cardstock from the venerable French Paper Co.
I have an artist edition of 60 available on my site as well as two small Holographic Foil Editions.
